Dieppe Sees Continued Growth

DIEPPE, NB — Not surprisingly, the latest Statistics Canada census data shows that Dieppe’s population has risen substantially, climbing from 25,384 residents in 2016 to 28 114 residents in 2021, an increase of 10.8 %.

Immigration and interprovincial migration account for much of the growth. For example, CCNB-Dieppe Campus had 89 international students in 2015-2016, or 13.4% of its students, while today, international students account for 31.6% of the student body.

“These numbers are consistent with what we are seeing on the ground, which is that more and more people are choosing to live in Dieppe. As the largest French-speaking municipality in New Brunswick and considering our geographical location, we are definitely a magnet for many francophones. We also have a bilingual and highly qualified workforce, which is of interest to businesses,” says Mayor Yvon Lapierre.

Numerous investments in strategic infrastructure and construction projects over the past few years have helped maintain this growth. A reminder that the City issued 639 building permits in 2021, for a total investment of $101.9 million, breaking the previous record of $96.9 million set in 2019.

“There are many reasons why new residents decide to move here. Our municipality has been recognized by PC Magazine as the best work-from-home city in Canada, housing is accessible and of good quality, and our community is a model when it comes to being inclusive and welcoming to newcomers,” adds Mayor Lapierre.

More data will be released later this year and provide an even more accurate picture of the city’s population.
